I’ve witnessed neo-Nazis, groups of skinheads attacking, attack local, gay clubs like Member or Grease. I’d be inside, and the door would open…because back then, the gay clubs were closed. You would ring the bell of a closed door. After being checked through a
spy hole, you were allowed in. It wasn’t an open place.

So you’d be in a club, in Member for example. There would be a knock on the door. You saw only a boy. Then you’d open the door. Skinheads rush in with with baseball bats, and start beating everyone. Or on Passeig de Gràcia, across Diagonal, it must have been sometime in the ’80s, you’re out with friends and suddenly…Since I looked like this, and [transvestism] didn’t exist back then, they didn’t attack me. They thought I was a woman.

But they attacked my friends. One nearly lost an eye. The baseball bat had spikes. So there were still very tough, difficult moments.
