I’m not in favor of an independent Catalan state. It’s not that I feel nationalistic towards Spain. It’s that I don’t feel that way towards Catalonia, either. I belong to the Iberian Peninsula. It’s my homeland. And a frontier separating Catalonia from Spain would feel like a frontier [separating] my body.
So no, I don’t believe it’s a good idea. I’m against frontiers. However, I can understand the citizenry standing up [to preserve] their culture. But it doesn’t have to disappear simply because it belongs to Spain.
For example, there are plenty of differences between Andalusian and Astorian culture, and they manage to coexist in the same country. And no one seems to have a problem with it. I don’t believe the political situation would get any better For Catalonia if it became independent from Spain. After all, politicians are cut from the same cloth.

Yo no estoy a favor de un estado catalán independiente. No, no podría. No porque tenga un sentimiento nacionalista con España, es que tampoco lo tengo con Cataluña. Yo me siento de la Península Ibérica. Es mi tierra, y si hubiese una frontera entre Cataluña y el resto de España, es como si hubiese una frontera física en mi cuerpo.
Osea no, no me parece una buena idea, no estoy a favor de las fronteras. Además, puedo entender que se quiera defender una cultura, que no tiene porque desaparecer por pertenecer a España, igual que hay muchísimas diferencias entre la cultura andaluza y la cultura asturiana y sin embargo pertenecen al mismo país. Y nadie ve ningún inconveniente.
Entonces si Cataluña se quiere independizar de España para librarse de este gobierno que hay en España, no me parece que fuera a mejorar la situación política aquí. Porque al fin y al cabo, los gobernantes no son tan diferentes.
