Plaça de Rovira i Trias

Plaça de Rovira i Trias is a Gràcia square named after architect Rovira i Trias. As well, it’s got a statue of the architect displayed prominently. Rovira i Trias was a Catalan involved in many urban projects in 19th century Barcelona, but perhaps he’s most well-known for the project he didn’t have a hand in: The Eixample. His plan for the widening of the city won the local competition, but it was overruled by the Spanish government. The plaza is lively and ‘local,’ and bisected by a street that splits it in half. There are numerous benches as well as terrace restaurants here.
