A 19th century square, Plaça de la Universitat is located in Eixample, across from the University of Barcelona’s main campus, and bordered by streets Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, Carrer d’Aribau, and the eponymous Plaça de al Universitat. It contains benches for seating and is frequently the scene of protests, cultural happenings and demonstrations. Most days, however, it’s a promenade dotted with skateboarders, shoppers, students and tourists heading this way and that. In the Catalunya Barcelona film series, Plaça de la Universitat is scene to protests during the Constitutional Crisis of 2017, the focus of the final episode of the docuseries.
